The Night Marchers

Een van de bands die je in de gaten moet houden is The Night Marchers. Dat Speedo van ondermeer Rocket From The Crypt en Hot Snakes zijn sporen al dubbel en dwars heeft nagelaten in de punkrockscene is bekend maar met The Night Marchers maakt hij grote kans om op grote schaal door te breken. Dat snappen wij, want met een sound die wat weg heeft van Iggy Pop's rockwerk, Real Kids en Wipers raak je automatisch opgewonden.

Met namen als Skitsos, Jsinclair, Speedo en Dner verwacht je eerder een band van Mars daarom vermelden The Night Marchers meestal ook hun burgerlijke namen op de platenhoezen. De bekendste van het stel is zanger/gitarist John Reis (Speedo) die ook actief was bij de bands Rocket from the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, the Sultans en Pitchfork en samen met gitarist Gar Wood, bassist Tommy Kitsos en drummer Jason Kourkounis onder de monnik the Hot Snakes Amerika en omgeving onveilig maakte.  Kitsos was ook actief bij CPC Gangbangs.

The Night Marchers brachten vorig jaar haar debuutalbum uit op Vagrant Records. Op Punknews omschrijft Speedo de sound van The Night Marchers. “The sound is a ‘combonation’ of everything I've been a part of dating back to my prepubescent days in Pitchfork. Similar to Hot Snakes but not as sinister yet still maintaining some of the drama and subsonic boom. Akin to the rockin' fun of RFTC but without the same kind of riffery. Like the Sultans but not as straightforward yet still maintaining the sense of melody and pop of the 2nd record. Occasional nods to The Flamin' Groovies, Real Kids, Byrds, boogie rock-era Status Quo, Bo Diddley, Chess Records in general, Wipers, Michael Yonkers and Shuggie Otis are evident to me.'
